Review- No Holly for Christmas

After being jilted not once, but twice by the only woman he’s ever truly loved, Brian McAlister has all but given up on relationships. Then, on special assignment for the DA’s office, he steps into the middle of a politically sensitive murder case where he crosses paths with a beautiful ex-socialite-turned-social-worker, Holly Cavanaugh Winter.

Widowed, practically penniless, and reduced to shopping at Walmart, Holly is dreading the approaching holiday season. However, her angst isn’t due to her husband’s untimely death the previous December 25th, but to a secret that could reveal itself unless she can find a way to avoid the coming Christmas. To make matters worse, she unwittingly stumbles into the throes of Brian’s case and the manhunt for a killer who now has his sights set on her.

His case unraveling, Brian finds himself tasked with keeping Holly and her two daughters safe while bringing an assassin and the powerful man who hired him to justice.

Review- Not your typical holiday romance with murder on the menu. But you also have the great romance with DA Brian  and Holly.  Brian who has his own problems is a great hero when Holly and her family needs him . A perfect romance at any time – but perfect for at Christmas time.

Note: During the tour, the book will be on sale for only $0.99.

Scott gave a quick thought to the repercussions of what he’d gotten himself involved in. Disbarment. Prison. But he wasn’t worried. He knew that if it came to that, he could make a deal, tell everything he knew in exchange for leniency, or better yet, immunity. After all, Holland was the one the DA was after. What Scott needed to do now was to keep focused on the cushy life that lay ahead if he succeeded in thwarting the DA’s case against Holland. As one of Holland’s company lawyers, he’d be ensured a lifetime of fine food and wine, travel, box seats to every SEC game, and women—lots of women. All he had to do was keep a murderer out of prison. Not that being required to do so worried or even surprised him. He didn’t possess even half the raw talent or basic instinct for the law as the majority of his colleagues, whose coattails he’d been riding right up until the moment fate shook him off. Hadn’t a part of him always known that sooner or later claiming his fortune would come down to something like this?

Yes, for Scott, a dance with the devil had been inevitable

ARC Review * Frost – Bitten

The newest Book from Lori King is out Tuesday -10/17 . Here’s my early review of this book-

Dr. Quinn Jameson has secured his future by immersing himself in his career, but no amount of money in the world can ease his loneliness. Polar bear shifters aren’t pack creatures, but his soul craves more out of life. When a feisty, female tiger shifter begs him for help, he’s unable to resist and finds himself embroiled in a dangerous situation.

Aubrey Celine is in a bad spot. Pregnant and on the run, she’s out of options until she wakes up in the hospital under the care of a delicious-looking Doctor. Can she trust another man after what her ex has put her through? Or has her heart frozen solid?

In the midst of an epic blizzard, these two strangers must rely on each other to stay alive, but every time they’re alone, the heat between them could melt the ice caps. How far will they go to avoid getting frost bite?

My ARC  review – Dr. Quinn Jameson is a great doctor and a Polar Bear shifter working at a human hospital . But he’s lonely looking for more when he meets Aubrey a pregnant tiger shifter. Aubrey is heavy pregnant and running away from a lion alpha who wants her baby. But Quinn knows she’s his and must save her -even if that means going home with her and battling the lion pride. This book is an exciting read with great characters and a new tales of mates and shifters. Love how protective Quinn and his Den to Aubrey and her new little ones. Put this on the buy list for Tuesday.   Lisa

Lori Teaser 2(1).jpg

“All set. Your friend is currently searching the neighborhood for his runaway fiancée; he believes you went AWOL, against medical advice,” he explained as he started the ignition. “Stay down a little longer if you don’t want to be spotted.”

Aubrey did as she was told, hunching down on the buttery-soft bench seat with only the car’s luxurious interior and one delicious-smelling man to look at. Trapped in this enclosed space with Dr. Jameson, she became keenly aware of her body’s attraction to him. Damn hormones.

“It’s normal,” he murmured.

“I’m sorry?”

“The arousal. It’s normal during pregnancy. Your hormones are a bit chaotic.” He glanced over at her, and Aubrey felt her face heat up. “I just didn’t want you to be embarrassed about it.”

“Well, you majorly failed at that, Doc,” she grumbled.

“My name is Quinn. Considering I just helped you escape a dastardly villain, I think we should be on first name terms.” Several more minutes passed before he spoke again.

“We just crossed the river, so you should be okay to sit up now,” he instructed, turning the car off the main road.

“Where are we going?” Aubrey struggled to get her bearings in an unfamiliar part of the city.

“My house.” He looked her way again and shifted the gears flawlessly. “Unless you have another destination in mind?”

“I didn’t have any destination in mind. I just had to get out. Honestly, I didn’t even pause to consider the risk of leaving when I saw my opening. I just ran,” her voice cracked, and she swallowed the lump in her throat. She had no idea where the out of character streak of fearlessness had come from. Alex had been threatening her the entire time he’d held her captive, and until the moment she’d noticed the lock wasn’t secured, she’d never even seriously considered making an escape attempt.

“I know who you’re running from, but what I don’t understand is why? What did this guy, Alex, do to you?”

“He kidnapped me.”

ARC Review * Beauty and the Gargoyle

ARC Review  for Book #2 of Beauty and the Gargoyle –

book link

During the last attack on him and his brothers, Rafael Mansovich was turned into a monster. His face and upper body are badly scarred, and the PTSD of the attack has left him trembling at the idea of being frozen in his Gargoyle form every day. But he has no choice because as soon as the sun rises in the morning, he is transformed into a real, stone beast.

Isabella is the head librarian at the New York City Library, and she loves her quiet life away from the corporate rat race. But when she meets a spectacular man with silver eyes and an attraction she can’t fight, she’s thrown into a world where winged creatures are being hunted, and shifters are a very real thing. Can Isabella’s love reach Rafael, or will her heartbroken beast not care if his attackers find him once more?

I had the pleasure of receiving a free copy from the author of this book. This is book #2 and read book 1 – but you can follow along without. Rafael and his family are Gargoyle shifter by day frozen as statues on the library in New York . But Rafe has been hurt by the hunters and not healed when he meets he’s Beloved at the Library. This book is sweet but oh so hot with these gargoyles – so if you ready for a different type of shifter read this series.  Lisa

Review * Hold Tight By Alexa Riley

Book #2 is the next installment of this instant love  series( For You) -coming out  10/16.    lisa

New York Times and #1 ebook bestselling author Alexa Riley returns with Hold Tight, the next novella in the For You series

A hotshot consultant hired to streamline Osbourne Corp. meets his match in Pandora Justice—the more she plays hard to get, the more he wants her.

They say that like recognizes like, and the day I looked into her deep blues, I met my other half.

Pandora Justice took over as head of security at Osbourne Corp. after her father’s retirement. Eighty-hour workweeks are normal; being bossed around by handsome outsiders is not. And she doesn’t like it. Not even one bit.

It’s amazing how easily she can lie to herself.

I had to have her. Plain and simple.

The first time Pandora sees Royce in the ring—all tattoos and sinew, covered in sweat—he looks at her like he’s just won more than the fight. Like he won her.

I won’t play games with her. I’ll wait, and it will kill me, but I’ll do it for her.

Royce’s cocky grin with deep dimples makes Pandora melt. Once she wanted to smack that look off his face—now all she wants to do is kiss it. For the rest of her life.

The thought of spending the rest of my life with Pandora warms the place in my chest I didn’t think was alive. I’ve put my claim on her—she’s the one, and I’m done. It’s that simple.

This book is approximately 20,000 words

One-click with confidence. This title is part of the Carina Press Romance Promise: all the romance you’re looking for with an HEA/HFN. It’s a promise!

My Early Net Galley Review-  Pandora is Penny’s twin sister mention in the first book ( Stay Close ) She’s the tough twin and works in Security in the family business. She and Royce meets and instant love in this author’s trademark style. With lots of hot sexy and hot males this is another winner- I recommend reading the first book and enjoy the fun.   Lisa

Review* The Christmas Wedding Swap

book link

Allison Stuart has always been the odd-woman-out of her family. She wears her jeans a little too tight, colors her hair a little too blonde, and instead of going into medicine and law like her sisters, she runs a diner. She’s also the only single sibling left. And while she won’t change her style, and her meatloaf is to die for, thank you very much, she wouldn’t mind her share of wedded bliss. So she makes an early New Year’s resolution: No more meaningless flings.

Drop-dead sexy Luke Hamilton is everything Allison has sworn off. His only serious relationship has been with his five-star restaurant, Le Cygne Noir, in Chicago. When he’s threatened by a lawsuit, Luke decides to hide out in Pineville, Michigan, until the statute of limitations runs out. The small town is filled with Christmas charm, but he can’t imagine living there. Heating things up with the hottie who owns the local diner would make his exile bearable—if he can convince her to give up her ridiculous resolution .

From Net Galley- As a long time foodie & love chef show- this book was a sure winner. Luke a fa mouse chef  finds himself in small town Michigan at Christmas time while running away from Chicago. He finds himself working in Allison diner cooking diner food but he finds so much more than he was running from.  He finds love, acceptance and friendship in Pineville,Michigan – I may have to move there it sounds perfect for Christmas. USA TODAY bestselling, and award-winning author and creator of award-winning teddy bears who have found homes all over the world including Australia, Switzerland, China, and Russia, and a retired officer of the US Army Reserves, I love to plant trees and flowers and if I could, I’d turn all the deserts green. Time travels are my favorite read, although I love to read most anything, and the Bourne series, Romancing the Stone, Sixth Sense, Legend, The Princess Bride, Stardust, Inkheart, LOTR, and tons of other movies are my favorites.

I love to research, to make urban fantasy worlds real, to bring a little of the paranormal into our world. Even in “Winning the Highlander’s Heart” the heroine feels she is cursed and she has second sight. But I try to do it in a way that feels real, and not fantasized. 🙂

Guest Blog Post ~ writing advice ~ for Transcending Fire by Casey Moss tour

I’ve been doing this writing “thing” for quite some time now. 😉 Had my calling to be a writer back when I was eleven. So, yeah, a long time… Over the years, I’ve picked up tidbits of wisdom that I try to keep in mind to keep me on track. I’m not always perfect, but hey, who is? I’ve also shared the advice with other authors and those looking at becoming writers, and I thought it might be fun to share them here, too, along with my thoughts on the tips.
– Plant butt in chair and write ~ Sounds easy, right? It should be, but it can be damn hard at times, especially when life gets in the way.

– Plan your work and work your plan. ~ This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to plot out the story. You can be a pantster. But you should have goals, and it’s good to have an idea on how to hit those goals.

– Write what you know. ~ If what you’re writing about is not a part of what you do for a living, or where you live, or what you’ve been exposed to in your life, you better like doing research and immersing yourself in the subject matter so you get to know it intimately.

– Treat your writing like a business ~ Set aside time to write and budget money for supplies and advertising if writing is more than a hobby or more than just writing for the love of it without thought of monetary gain.

– Read. Read some more. And then read even more. In your genre and out. ~ Kinda self-explanatory, eh?

– Write as if nobody else is going to read it. ~ This is supposed to help a writer delve into a character, get nitty gritty deep and emotional, and not worry what friends, family…perfect strangers…will say about the subject matter.

– Taking a quote from Dory of Finding Nemo, “Just keep swimming.” Or in this case, “Just keep writing.” ~ Basically, once you’re done with a story, get to writing the next one. No matter the reception of the story or the reviews, if writing is in your blood and soul, keep on putting words on paper. Stuck on one story? Why not start another one so you can keep on writing and then you can flip back and forth between the two?

– Learn the craft. Learn the rules. Then you’ll know how and when to break the rules. Continue learning about the craft. ~ Read books on writing. Take classes. Write. Write. Write. Read books on writing. Take classes. Repeat.
Whether they’re writing related or not, if you want to share any bits of wisdom you’ve come across, please feel free to do so!

Thanks for reading!
