In For the Win
Against the Cage Book 5
by Melynda Price
Genre: Sports Romance, Romantic Suspense
To win his heart, she’ll have to give him the one thing that could
drive him away—the truth…
Kyle Scott’s talent for fighting paved the way for a career he never
wanted, but needed to survive. Five years later, he doesn’t
recognize the man he’s become. All his focus and energy has been
poured into raising his little sister, leaving no time or interest
for anything beyond a casual hook-up—until he meets a woman who
sends his life spiraling out of control.
Penelope Cantrel isn’t looking for love, but she’s always ready for a good
time. If she keeps everyone at a distance, they can’t discover how
broken she is, or the secrets she’s running from. When she crosses
paths with the sexy MMA fighter, Kyle’s reputation as a
cage-banging manwhore doesn’t concern her. She isn’t interested
in a commitment. But after their white-hot attraction leads to a
night of mind-blowing sex, neither of them will ever be the same
again.
When Pen starts receiving threatening messages, her deepest fears are
realized as she becomes the obsession of a man who will kill to
possess her. Concerned for her safety, Kyle offers to pose as her
boyfriend to deter her unwanted admirer, but his heated touches and
those not-so-innocent kisses don’t feel like he’s acting. Could
the infamous playboy be falling for her?
As the threat against Pen escalates, her stalker is closer than they
thought. Kyle is the only thing standing between her and a madman,
but she fears trusting him with her secrets could be a fatal mistake.
Melynda Price is a bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary
romance. Her Against the Cage series has finaled in many awards
such as the RONE, USA Today BBA, Golden Quill, National Readers’
Choice, and New England Readers’ Choice.

What Price enjoys most about writing is the chance to make her readers
fall in love, over and over again. She cites the greatest challenge
of writing is making the unbelievable believable, while taking her
characters to the limit with stories full of passion and unique
twists and turns. Salting stories with undertones of history whenever
possible, Price adds immeasurable depth to her well-crafted
books. She currently lives in Northern Minnesota with her husband and
two children where she has plenty of snow-filled days to curl up in
front of the fireplace with her Chihuahua and a hot cup of coffee to
write.

All of the Rogers
by Erin Lockwood
Genre: YA Psychological Romance
“How can you love someone so much and need space from them at
the same time?”
My alarm goes off at four am. It takes an hour to get to the studio, and
then my ballet training begins. I go to school for a few hours, and
then it’s back to the studio for more training. Go to bed. Repeat
the whole process the next day.
I hate it.
My time at school is a blur, except for biology. I don’t rush through
that class, because I get to see Roger Byrnes. He probably doesn’t
even know I exist, but my heart beats a little faster when I see him
walk through the classroom door with his messy hair and carefree
attitude. He has so much energy. But then he stares off into the
distance, and I wonder what he’s thinking. It’s the highlight of
my day.
I wish I could quit ballet so I could be a normal teenager. Someone who
Roger would want to be with. I could use some excitement in my life…I
bet Roger could give that to me.
Erin Lockwood grew up in Castro Valley, California and attended the
University of Oregon, where she graduated in 2003 with a degree in
journalism. From there she moved to Denver and spent the next seven
years searching for the love of her life and building the family of
her dreams.

It wasn’t long until, with children starting preschool and more time
on her hands, Erin refocused on her career, beginning with a
successful entry into the world of residential real estate as a
Realtor. Free time was spent reading book after book (and
binge-watching the subsequent films) in the New Adult genre. Feeling
hopelessly in love with her husband, she wrote him a short story
leading up to their fifth wedding anniversary. That’s when she
discovered her tireless passion to share her experience of falling in
love through fictional characters. That story evolved into the first
novel in the Angles trilogy.
Erin still lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband, Phil, and
their three children.

Invisible
The Curse of Avalon Book 1
by Sariah Skye
Genre: Paranormal RH Romance
My name is Ava Dawson. Ever since I was young, I have had this strange
“gift” of invisibility. I can’t explain it, nor can I always
control it. It affects my work, my personal life, dating—all but my
mother and best friend seem to be affected. No matter what I do, I
seem to always be forgotten.
Until I meet these gorgeous guys during a girls’ night out, and there’s
something strangely alluring about them. An ancient curse brings us
together, while a group of supernatural “Collectors” is
threatening to tear us apart. They’re targeting people with special
abilities like mine, and all four men have taken it upon themselves
to protect me. But with their complicated pasts, I can’t help but
feel protective of them, too. I’m trying not to get in over my
head, with these men, and the magic.
But I have to admit, It’s nice to be seen after years of being
invisible.
*Author’s Note: this book is ‘reverse harem;’ meaning, one woman, multiple love
interests. This series is meant for readers 18+ only
Sariah Skye physically resides in southern Minnesota with her husband, two
kids and a dog (so really…3 children) but mentally her head is in
the clouds dreaming of anything that doesn’t require adulting.
When not writing she’s probably geeking out watching Star Trek, playing
World of Warcraft, reading yet another fantasy book or staying up way
too late. She’d love it if you dropped her a line at Facebook or
Twitter but be prepared…she’s a nictofiliac so be patient for a
response while her eyes adjust to the light of day and beware of
sarcasm. It helps to throw her chocolate or glitter first before
engaging. Wine is also acceptable…but not to throw. Hand it over gently.

It was a feeling I’d never wish on my worst enemy: heartache. It felt like being dangled over the edge of a cliff and knowing if the person let go, you’d fall to your death. The anticipation, though, the hanging and waiting for them to release you, that was the worst part. The unknown, the fear. That’s what heartache was like. There was never a thought that someone else could come along and make me forget about my love for Parker. I never so much as thought of another guy. I put my all into our marriage, with the hope that maybe the person I loved would realize what he had in front of him.
Reality was, I was alone.
Always.
Despite my anger with Parker for signing up for another deployment, we worked as a team tonight, packing up his duffle bags and footlocker, filling it with his life. Sad thing was, his life fit in those bags and footlockers. It was filled with clothes, army gear, and whatever other items meant something to him. As I folded another green T-shirt, I let the tears fall. Despite everything, I was sad to see him go, but for the first time, I realized I wasn’t his life. Maybe I never had been.
“Babe.” Parker wrapped his arms around me and rested his chin on my head. “It’s going to be all right.” I looked up at him as I often did, my eyes pleading with him to understand me. Every time I looked at Parker, I was transported back to the first day I saw him at the diner. I held on to that memory. It kept me going; it gave me hope. Looking up at him now, all I saw was loneliness, a lifetime of me hoping he would choose me, settle down and start a family. I would never ask him to give up what he loved for me, though. I couldn’t help but think if he loved me, he would have already chosen me and I wouldn’t even have to ask.

Excerpt
After I
turned the water on to get hot, I pulled my hair back into a messy bun and
dropped my clothes onto the floor, feeling almost decadent—like I wasn’t just a
normal girl with a normal job living a normal life. I loved the specialty bath
wash the hotel provided—deliciously scented with lavender and honey—and I
scrubbed up and rinsed off at a leisurely pace.
I wondered
what Sean was doing.
He probably
had a meeting run late or else something urgent came up at work.
I was going
to be very disappointed if the front desk called up to tell me he wasn’t going
to be able to make it after all.
I’d been
waiting for two weeks for tonight. I didn’t want to miss out.
When I felt
an unexpected blast of cool air, I turned to see what caused it. I squealed
loudly when I saw a man getting into the shower with me. I raised my hands
instinctively to beat him off.
You
understand I wasn’t thinking through any of this. All I’d processed was the
sudden appearance of a man where I hadn’t been expecting one.
“Hey,” Sean
said, laughing as he grabbed at my flailing wrists. He was as naked as I was.
“I expected a warmer welcome than this.”
I relaxed
immediately, flushing with embarrassment and the aftermath of my shock. “You
scared the crap out of me!”
He was
still laughing. “I can see that. Who did you think was getting into the shower
with you?”
“I don’t
know. I thought you were running late.”
He moved so
he was completely under the shower spray, the water soaking his short brown
hair and streaming down his high cheekbones, strong chin, and sexy mouth. “I
was. But I rushed over so you wouldn’t start without me.”
“Start…
without…?”
I didn’t
finish the stilted question because he’d pulled me into a kiss.
I had no
objections to kissing him. In fact, it was one of my favorite activities. No
one kissed like Sean Doyle did—with those clever lips, agile tongue, and
dedicated skill. But I’d put my hair into the bun on purpose, and I didn’t want
him to pull my head under the water, so I backed away, saving my hair from
getting soaked like his.
He frowned
when I broke the kiss and reached for me again. “Why are you all standoffish?”
“I’m not.”
I giggled as I evaded his hands. “I just don’t want my hair to get wet.”
“Why not?”
I stared at
him through the steam-thickened air. “Why not? Do you have any idea what it’s
like to go around with wet hair as long as mine? It takes forever to dry and it
gets everything wet.”
He frowned
and stepped forward, pushing me back against the shower wall. “Fine. If you
insist on focusing on practicalities, how’s this then?” He kissed me again, and
this time I didn’t have any desire to pull away. My head was safely away from
the fall of water.
“Not bad,”
I murmured against his lips.
“Not bad?
That’s all you can say after two weeks without kissing me?”
“What did
you expect me to say? That your kiss is the most incredible thing I’ve ever
experienced in the universe.”
He nuzzled the
side of my face, his tongue darting out to taste my skin in little, unexpected
licks, each one causing a quick jolt of pleasure. “That wouldn’t be a bad
start.”

Excerpt:

“Are we going to have another ‘about last night’ conversation?” I asked.

“If you want to.”

What did I want to say? Everything. but mostly, I wanted to tell him how much I liked kissing him and how conflicted I was. I wanted to demand answers immediately and give him space at the same time.

All the words tried to jump forward, but when he stopped at a light, our eyes met in the rearview. The words landed in a tangle, unsaid.

He tapped the steering wheel when he turned it, using both hands for the first time since I’d gotten in.

“Hey,” I said.

“Yeah?” He briefly looked at me in the mirror.

“What happened to your hand?”

“Burn.” he brushed his left hand over the bandage at the top of his palm, right where you’d burn it if you were picking up a hot pot handle. He caught my eye in the rearview again.

I didn’t know if I believed him.

“What were you cooking?”

“Breakfast.”

“And you still went to get a Danish?”

He rubbed his upper lip with his left hand and tapped the wheel with the bandaged one.

“I burned my eggs.”

Right. Hot pot. Burned hand. Smoke-filled kitchen.

“You know what’s funny?” I said.

The Three Stooges.”

“I don’t know anything about you. You could live in your mother’s basement.”

“That’s just where I bury the bodies.”

Blatant avoidance. It had been cute before; now it was getting on my nerves.

“Are you married?”

“No!”

He could have been lying, buy lying liars always lied. There wasn’t a thing I could do about that except make sure I asked.

Something was wrong. We’d kissed twice, and twice he’d shut down. I should have been the one shutting down. I was the one with all the ex-boyfriend baggage. Why was I the one who was always so willing?

But there he was in the front seat, driving with both hands on the wheel, glancing at me once in a while to make sure I wasn’t choking on my tongue in the back seat. Discomfort radiated out of him.

Here I was with my hands in my lap thinking about ways to kiss him again.

He pulled into the little lot and wedged into a space. He turned off the car, popped his seat belt, and stared at the wheel for a split second too long. I was about to open the car door myself when he turned all the way around, arm over the back of his seat, bandaged hand on the back of the passenger side.

“Kissing you…” He stopped and looked at my lips so intensely I folded them back and bit them. “You’re dangerous. I can’t even see your lips, but I can taste them. I couldn’t brush the taste of you out of my mouth this morning. Right now. The honey. I can taste it but not enough. I want to kiss you again, and I can’t. I lose my shit around you. I can’t do it. My job is control. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

My jaw loosened, and I let my lips go.

“No, I don’t. I’ve met bodyguards before. You’re a stoic bunch, but you’re not all celibate. And if you think this is easy for me, you’re wrong. I’m afraid too. I’m afraid you’re going to get hurt because of me. last night…” I put my fingertips to my lips as if that would keep the choking sob from coming. I kept it back. “Last night he showed me he’s back, and if he’ll hurt me, he’ll hurt you.”

If I thought seats would be a barrier between us, I was wrong. He launched himself between them and placed his lips on mine. Our third kiss was unexpected, uncomfortable with him stretched between front and back. I wove my fingers in his hair, giving him my mouth, and taking his.

I wanted that kiss to tell him it was all right. He could lose control. He could bemore than a protector. He was as safe with me as I was with him. But I couldn’t without lying to both of us.

He yanked his lips away.

“Trust me.” He leaned his forehead against mine.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.
