- Pour the wine into a pitcher.
- Squeeze the juice from the citrus wedges into the wine. Toss in the wedges, removing the seeds if possible.
- Add brandy (if desired) and add the sugar before stirring.
- Chill overnight.
- Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.
Wine to Use?
Ask for a dry, crisp, and unoaked wine. Most sangrias get their sweetness and full-flavor from fruit or additional sugar so we prefer wines on the drier side. Some particular types to look for: Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling (if it’s dry), and Vinho Verde (a Portuguese white wine)
Fruit Choices ?
Combine sugar, Calvados, lime, lemon, peaches and apples in a large pitcher. Cover with 1 bottle of Rioja wine and chill sangria several hours. To serve, spoon fruits into glasses or goblets, adding a few fresh raspberries in each glass, pour wine over top of the fruit.
